Department of Languages Overview

The Department of Languages offers a comprehensive range of language courses tailored for both students and staff at the university. Our compulsory courses include English for Academic Purposes, Academic Writing, and English for Professional Interaction. We also provide elective foreign language courses in German, Malay, Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean.

 

Language Support Programmes

We offer specialized programmes designed to bolster language skills:

1.Academic English Course:

This course is aimed at international students who wish to improve their English proficiency before enrolling in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. It also helps students meet the English language entry requirements.

2.MUET Workshop:

A preparatory programme for both local and international students aiming to take the MUET examination. This workshop offers extensive training in language and academic skills, enabling students to reach their full academic potential at UTeM.

 

Seasonal and Collaborative Learning Opportunities

1.Japanese and German Summer Camps:

These camps provide immersive language learning experiences during the summer.

2.Communication Skills Training (KPT-PACE):

In collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, this training is designed to enhance the career prospects of final-year students by improving their workplace communication skills.

 

Additional Services and Activities

1.Bahasa Melayu Programmes:

Offered to international staff and students, these programmes facilitate learning of the national language.

 

2.University Language Carnival (ULC) and Karnival Dekad Bahasa Kebangsaan (KDBK):

These events promote linguistic diversity and cultural exchange within the university community.

 

3.Professional Services: We provide Proofreading and Editing services (for a fee) to help enhance the language proficiency and academic writing skills across our university community.

 

Through these services, the Department of Languages strives to enhance language proficiency and cultural understanding, contributing to the academic and professional success of our university community.

CeLL

Centre for Language Learning promotes communicative and intercultural competence in its curriculum. The aim is to empower students to use the target language in order to fully understand information, to express themselves orally and in writing and to communicate with native and non-native speakers of the language.
